Christmas Party, Ski Trip & Summer Mission Trip!!!

Welcome to St. Benedict's Christmas Candyland
Food, dancing, candy, prizes, brownies, flashing lights and loud music were the order of the evening last Sunday at the teen Christmas party. I must say I saw moves I've never seen before and they all shame me and my crossed up two left feet. I'll be posting some more pictures a little later on. Many thanks go to Fadi and the rest of the party crew who did all the planning and decorating. The PLC never looked so festive.

Here is some info on the ski trip coming up right around the corner (Jan. 13th - 16th). We will be flying up to Baltimore on Friday. Renting vans and staying at Mount St. Mary's seminary for the duration of the trip. All of our skiing fun will take place at the Ski Roundtop resort in Pennsylvania. Check out the websites for more info on the locations. We'll be returning during the day on Monday. Permission forms are located in the hall next to the library and must be returned as soon as possible (we need the info to get plane tickets).

This summer brings us a wonderful opportunity to serve those in need. We will be in New Orleans at a new camp, called Alive In You, helping those affected by all the terrible storms from this past fall. The dates for the camp are June 27th - July 2nd. Please prayfully consider coming on this life changing mission.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with your families! Keep Cassi, Bridget and I in your prayers this weekend while we run the Jacksonville marathon (yes, 26.2 miles) that we finish without injury and come back home safe and sound.

God Bless!!!
Eric

Flashback; Teen Life Night 12/4/05

It is the second week of Advent in the Catholic world, and you know what that means; confession, penance, and the forgiveness of sins. We need to get ready for the birth of Christ. We need to not focus on presents, but we need to focus on giving to others more needier than yourself, and focusing on the true meaning of Christmas!

One of the best movies one could see this Christmas season, is the movie The Chronicle of Narnia; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. You must think, "Why this movie, it just has a talking lion in it." Well this movie is related to scripture in many ways. The author of the book, C.S. Lewis, uses themes of loyalty, courage, faith, pure love, innocence, and caring for others to reflect the battle between good and evil. It is ironic that this man used to be an athesist, but then he discovered that there was a god, and became one of the best known Christian writers. The movie comes out this Friday December 9th. Go check it out!

In other news, Target is naming their Christmas trees, "Holiday Trees." This is totally trying to take Christ out of Christmas. Target managers may argue that the term Christmas is offensive to some people, so that's why they are not using it. There is great controversy in this topic, so the topic is highly debated. Next time you're in Target ask a manager why the word Christmas isn't used when the birth of Christ is the whole reason we have a holiday (aka holy day) in the first place.
